AMGEN

How does the supply chain play such an important role in the pharmaceutical industry?
The importance of Supply Chain within the pharmaceutical industry has increased dramatically over the past few years due to the increasing presence of  Biosimilars and Health Care reform resulting in the need to reduce costs, and regulatory requirements clearly identifying pharma companies to understand the end-to-end Supply Chain.

Describe a supply chain initiative you are or will be focusing on in 2014.

Multi-tiered visibility: Amgen is working with all of its raw material suppliers to map the Supply Chain. A tool is in place to both proactively analyze the supply chain and determine risks, as well as to reactively monitor events (geopolitical, FDA warnings, adulteration, etc) to enable much faster reactions to events and understanding impact.

What are you most looking forward to regarding the 2nd Annual Pharmaceutical Supply Chain Conference?

Gaining an understanding of what best practices other companies are using that can be leveraged across the industry and at Amgen.

What has been your greatest achievement within your current role?

Leading the development and maturation of Amgen’s Supplier Relationship Excellence program. This is a program for our key suppliers that involves an increased level of engagement that includes Technical Engagement, Supply Chain, and developing a Robust Relationship.

Timothy will be one of the distinguished speakers at the 2nd Annual Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology Supply Chain Management Conference.
