Sheila Arquette
Assistant Director of Pharmacy
INDEPENDENT HEALTH

How many years have you been in the industry?
I have been a pharmacist for 25 years and employed in the managed care industry for 11 years.

Why do you believe that the managed market operations is so important within the industry?
The managed markets operations is so critical to the industry because it drives product market share through formulary and benefit design, specialty pharmacy channel management and compliance and adherence program participation.

What do you hope attendees will take away from your presentation, workshop or panel discussion?
What are the considerations beyond the typical (ie contracting/rebating) that a payer utilizes when making a comprehensive formulary inclusion decision for a new drug product or when additional clinical information becomes available. The effect of manufacturer limited distribution specialty drug networks on the health plan, member, provider and formulary design.

What inspires your passion and/or interest for managed markets/managed care and/or healthcare?
I am inspired every day by our members. They have placed their trust in me to effectively manage the limited healthcare dollars available to ensure that we are able to provide the highest level of quality care to the greatest number of people. This requires diligence, commitment, passion and the ability to make tough decisions. Navigating through the healthcare delivery system can be challenging at best. I try each day to provide the “red shirt” treatment to our members, providers and health plan associates who tirelessly endeavor each day to make a difference.
