Health insurer Cigna has announced that by working with hospitals and healthcare providers through a value-based approach, its patient’s opioid use has decreased by 12%. The approach involved Cigna reporting to healthcare providers when prescription trends are not consistent with guidelines established by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
