WannaCry Targets US Medical Devices

WannaCry Targets US Medical Devices

May 18, 2017

The stolen NSA hacking tool that was spread across the world over the weekend, has now infected Medical Devices in the US. It is unclear what hospitals have been affected, but it is confirmed that Bayer Medrad received two reports of their devices being hit by the ransomware. The Bayer infections are the first known instance of ransomware directly affecting the operation of a medical device.

North Korean involvement in the attack is becoming more evident by Cybersecurity firms. The WannaCry hackers used code linked to North Korean cyber operations. The Healthcare tech industry is on high alert to prepare any further attacks.
