June 11-12, 2012 | San Antonio, TX

ABOUT THE FORUM

The Life Science industry faces a large number of challenges when addressing their tax liabilities, on both a domestic and international playing field. Combined with increasing pressure from boards to reduce costs and expenditures, restricted pipelines and tremendous pressure from healthcare payers, tax executives have been pushed to the forefront of importance and are now seen as a major player in reducing overall spend. While a number of organizations have been lauded or vilified as being experts at reducing tax liabilities, for many organizations the immense number of opportunities and tax structures are daunting. As federal, state and local legislation continues to look towards industry as a viable source of tax revenue, the industry must be prepared to forecast and plan for potential tax increases. On an international level, organizations must also plan for greater scrutiny of transfer-pricing as the IRS continues their investigations of this key tax challenge.

From increasing tax rates applied to medical devices to repatriation taxes on international revenues, this program will cover a wide variety of the pressing challenges faced by the industry in today's economic environment. Breakout sessions will provide various industries the opportunity to discuss in detail through small group discussions the opportunities and challenges that they face in remaining profitable in this ever increasingly tax driven environment. Having a thorough understanding of the various liabilities and the many ways of reducing tax payments is essential. Given the increasing legal complexity of many tax frameworks, having the opportunity to come together as an industry and discuss taxation will be an incredibly valuable experience.
